OMG! (Spoiler Alert for Buffy #19)
December 5, 2008
Buffy murdered Willow.
Huge character moment. Not some phlebotinum fixer.
The moment parallels the season two finale, Becoming Part 2, when Buffy stabs Angel through the heart. Then, it was the only way to save the world.
Not this time. Willow’s nearly powerless. Buffy could just shove her out of the way. Instead, stab.
I think Willow is Grey Willow, not Dark Willow, and that she stuck around two centuries to teach Buffy a lesson. About Buffy. Buffy has to learn why she killed Willow. It’s a lesson about (you know I’m heading here) Love vs. Domination.

All hail the glorious return of Pointitude!
Just beautifully done, Master.
My gratitude for indulging my incoherence, Your Majesty.
There’s a second parallel: Buffy killed her best friend, which was Andrew’s crime.
Buffy, like Andrew, chose to believe that it was a necessary step to take, despite evidence to the contrary.
(I’ve long thought Andrew’s position of responsibility in the Slayer Army is an indication that there’s something wrong with its hierarchical structure. Any hierarchy that has a position for him discredits itself.)
And wasn’t the reason that The First As Warren gave Andrew that if he killed Jonathan they all would live as gods? If so, that lands on the dominating side. I’ll have rewatch Storyteller, one of my Season Seven faves.
