Black Water
Last night I watched a low-budget Australian film with that title. Supposedly based on a true story of what befell an Australian family on a fishing trip in the mangrove swamps of northern Australia. All I knew going in was it was supposed to be suspenseful. Had I known the nature of the threat in the movie I would never have watched it. It’s pretty corny.
Except…
That would have been a mistake. The suspense builds. The gore doesn’t. The very small cast is very good, especially the two females, especially the woman playing the younger sister. Her name, Maeve Dermody, is odd enough she might be hired for Dollhouse. I wish she would be.
This isn’t a false-alarm, jump-scare every five minutes movie. It may move too slowly for some. But it held my interest easily and during the climax of the film I sat up forward on the edge of my chair. Doing so is very painful for me but I did it anyway.
Couldn’t help myself.
